Talc is an alteration mineral. It is formed by geological modification of some host rock. Most talc is formed from the alteration of dolomite (CaMg(CO3)2 or magnesite (MgO) in the presence of. Talc is a metamorphic mineral that is composed of of hydrated magnesium silicate. It's chemical composition is Mg3Si4O10(OH)2. Talc can be found in colors such as green, white, gray, brown, or colorless. Known as a soft mineral as it is only rated 1 on the mohs scale. The cleavage of Talc is rated as perfected.
